Services for Mr. Troy E. Hinton, Sr., age 85, of Petal will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Bethel Freewill Baptist Church.  Mr. Hinton passed from this life on July 31, 2025 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  Rev. Norman Nowell and Rev. Ronald Nowell will officiate the service and burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Randall Henderson, Carl "Cotton" Shows, Jeremy Shows, Kevin Cooley, Bill Garaway, and Jim Hinton, with Toby Pearce and Ken Seal as alternates.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Byrd Hinton; parents, Mr. and Mrs. E.H. Hinton; brothers, James Arthur Hinton and Joe Hinton; and sister, Hida Mae Hillman.

He is survived by his son, Troy "Mudbug" Hinton, Jr. of Richton; daughter, Patricia R. (Tommy) Mulloy of Ellisville; grandchildren, Briann (Jesse) Hanley and Blake Gerald, both of Petal; great grandchildren, Ethan Hanley, Huck Garris, and Ellie Hanley, all of Petal; brother, Randall (Cleo) Hinton of Richton; and sister, Mabel (Tony) Whittington of Wiggins.

Troy E. Hinton, Sr was a faithful and steadfast servant of God, family, country and community.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving from 1959 – 1964.  He committed 30 years of his life to the Hattiesburg Fire Department, with many of those years served as fire captain. Patriarch of the Hinton family, he led by example.  He was a loyal and devoted husband for over 65 years, caring and concerned father and grandfather, and an adoring great-grandfather.  He was always an enduring and guiding force for his siblings, with a host of nieces and nephews with whom he shared great wisdom and knowledge.  An Elder of Bethel Freewill Baptist Church, serving as a deacon for 56 years, Troy was dedicated to God and His House.  Throughout the years, he served as Sunday school teacher, building fund and cemetery treasurer, and assisted in the establishment and building of the South MS FWB Youth Camp.  However, within all of the characteristics that Troy exhibited to those around him, he always found his identity in being a servant of the Living God and that made all the difference in his life.  Troy E. Hinton, Sr, was a steadfast and faithful friend of God.

THOU WILT KEEP HIM IN PERFECT PEACE, WHOSE MIND IS STAYED ON THEE:  BECAUSE HE TRUSTETH IN THEE.  TRUST YE IN THE LORD FOREVER:  FOR IN THE LORD JEHOVAH IS EVERLASTING STRENGTH.  ISAIAH 26:  3 - 4
