Services for Mrs Martha Sue Posey, age 88, of Richton, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the First Baptist Church of Richton.  Bro. Mark Ford will officiate the service with burial to follow in Sunset Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Keith Evans, Derane Mayo, Parker Thoms, Cameron Ford, Jason Wilbanks, and Brent Deweese.  Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Myles Mayo, Landon Mayo, Brooks Rahaim, and Andrew Roberts.

Martha Sue Cox was born the last of seven children to Orman and Hilda Cox on October 10, 1934, in Neshoba County, Mississippi.  She married George Posey in 1953.  Together they spent the next twenty years serving in the U.S. Air Force in Georgia, Turkey, Tennessee, Virginia, Germany, and Texas.

After some time  in Central Mississippi, George's job led them to Richton, Mississippi in 1974.  There they finally put down roots and spent the rest of their lives enjoying friends, community, and nature.  Over time, she was a member of the Richton Home and Garden Club, the Richton Women's Club, the Fidelis Sunday School Class, and the First Baptist Church where she served on various committees.

Mommy Sue, as most people know her, was an immaculate homemaker and a fabulous cook.  Her hobbies included sewing, decorating, gardening, watching sports, fresh water fishing, hunting deer, and looking for arrowheads.  However, her greatest passions were to watch Taylor dance and Parker play ball.  She would light up when either of her grandchildren would enter the room.

Survivors include her daughter, SuzAnne (Hugh) Thoms of Richton; grandchildren, Taylor Thoms of Metairie, Louisiana and Parker Thoms of Richton; daily caregiver, Loretta Odom; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Posey was preceded in death by her husband, George Posey; parents, Orman and Hilda Cox; sisters, Shirley Weatherford, Carolyn Chapman, Willie Ross Deweese, Mary Ann Cobb; and brothers, Cliff and Robert Cox.

She will be missed, but we take comfort in knowing that she has lived a wonderful, long life and is now with her Savior.  Thanks to the blessed Trinity; we will see her again!
