A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2026, in the Hattiesburg Moose Lodge 1804, 308 West Hills Drive, Hattiesburg, MS 39402 for Mr. Steve Lavelle Reid, age 68, of Sumrall. Steve was born to Lonnie Lavelle Reid and Jimmie Kathleen (Simmons) Lewis on August 17, 1958. He passed away at Forrest General Hospital on September 18, 2026, with his son and daughter present.

He was met in Holy rest by his mother, father, sisters, Brenda Yawn, Mary Reid Graves, Silvia Madden, brother-in-law, Bobby Joe Stuart, stepfather, Ray Lewis and granddaughter, Ivory Broome.

Left to cherish his memories are his children, Brent Broome of Moselle, Lonnie Reid of Moselle, Cassandra Leann (Jason) Anderson of Moselle, Andrew (Ashleigh) Reid of Sumrall, grandchildren, Destinee Reid, Jason "Jay" Jarrell, Jr., Haleigh Robertson, Jaden McRee, Lindsey Reid, Lauren Reid, Laiken Reid, Holli Anderson, Alex Broome, Trenten O'Quinn, Evie Reid and Summer Reid;  great-grandchildren, Elijah Byrd, Joshua McRee, Oaklynn Reid, Hadlee Jarrell and Wrenee Reid Gray and sister, Sandra Stuart.

Steve graduated from the Hattiesburg Police Academy September 3, 1982. After graduation he served his community as a law enforcement officer with Hattiesburg Police Department, Lamar County Sherrif's Office, and Purvis Police Department eventually as Chief of Police for a career span of 36 years. He also served in the United States Army. He was a member of the Woodlawn Pentecostal Church. He loved the smokey mountains and fishing.
