Shirley Virginia Self Jones, 86, passed from this life on Friday, November 24, 2023, in Lucedale, Mississippi.  Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2023 at Indian Hill Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph Jones, Dustin Walley, Lain Bowman, Bailey Hammonds, Hayden Jones, Matthew Leiser, and Leighton Bowman as alternate.

Shirley was born December 31, 1936 in Abingdon, Virginia, to the late Oliver Self and Lilly Hyatt. She grew up in Bristol, Tennessee and moved to Sand Hill, Mississippi after marrying Percy Dale Jones in 1954. Together they raised 8 children, and provided a loving home for many more.

Shirley's faith was unwavering. She was extremely hard-working. Her best friend was her sister, Dottie. Shirley adored children and was an animal lover. She was a safe haven for anyone who needed it, and we will be lost without her.

Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Percy Dale; children, Evelyn Jones, Tommy Dale Jones, Patty (Jimmy) Green, and Joann Walker; three grandchildren; and her siblings, Howard Self, Marie Self, ND Self, and Hazel Taylor.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ross Jones, Dottie Jones, Tina Bolton, all of Sand Hill, MS, and Tracey (Mel) Williams of Leakesville, MS; 25 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; her siblings, Dottie Hall, Ruth Smith, Harley Self, Betty Dove, Steve Self, Linda Bowen, Geraldine Wooten, and George Self; as well as other family and friends.
