Services for SGT MAJ Charles W. "Chuck" Fortenberry, US Army Ret., age 88, of Laurel will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Jones and Son Chapel in Richton.  Mr. Fortenberry passed from this life on July 9, 2024 at his residence.  Bro. Chris Sledge will officiate the service and burial will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be David Houston, Andrew Fredrick, Douglas Johnston, Kenny Parker, Matthew Parker, and Dominick Parker.

Mr. Fortenberry was retired from the United States Army, the United States Navy, and the National Guard after 39 plus years of combined service.  He was also a police officer in Alaska for 2 years.  He was a member of the VFW.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys Manning Fortenberry; parents, William and Lena Fortenberry; daughter, Sherian Snyder; grandson, John Summerlin; and sisters, Abbie McRaney, Doris Savage, Hazel Lane, and Wilma Lane.

He is survived by his daughters, Lee Ann (Bill) Eiland of Laurel, Donna Massin of Alaska, and Beth (Mike) McCourt of Alabama; sons, Ernie (Elizabeth) Fortenberry of Seattle, WA and Mark (Jessica) Summerlin of Ft. Wayne, IN; 16 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
