Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the Sanford Missionary Baptist Church for Mrs. Roma Thrash Pierce, age 91, of Hattiesburg. Bro. Wayne Woolwine and Bro. Clay Williamson will officiate with burial to follow in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery of Seminary. Serving as pallbearers will be Josh Thrash, Dalen Pierce, Christopher Collins, Josh Williamson, Johnathan Anderson and Noah Pierce. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Thrash, David Thrash, Chris Matheny and Ethan Taylor.

Roma Thrash Pierce  March 11, 1935 – April 30, 2026

Ransom and Georgia Thrash welcomed their first child, Roma Faye, on March 11, 1935. When she was four years old, the family moved to 113 Okatoma River Rd. in Covington County. The Thrash family grew to include three more children: Glenn, Jimmie, and Mike.

Roma was exceptionally bright and studiously gifted. She worked on the family farm picking cotton, cooking, sewing, and cleaning. At 16, Roma began working in the school office earning $10 per month.

After graduating high school, Roma moved to Hattiesburg where she worked at Sears and attended USM – known as Mississippi Southern College. Roma married Lyndell Pierce on April 12, 1953. They had six children and were blessed to celebrate their 64th anniversary prior to Lyndell's death in 2022.

Roma and Lyndell were the proud owners of Hattiesburg Concrete Products for over 30 years. They also owned and operated A Better Storage Park. Both businesses were located in Hattiesburg. In her later years Roma enjoyed camping, beach trips, and relaxing at her lake house, and especially time with her family – the apples of her eye.

Roma met every day with a strong cup of coffee, joy, and optimism. She was truly unique with her quick wit, savvy, and boundless inquisitive nature.

Preceded in death by her husband, Henry Lyndell Pierce, her son, Dwayne Keith Pierce, her parents Ransom and Georgia Thrash, and her beloved brother, Glen Thrash.

Roma is greatly missed and survived by her children, Janice D. Pierce of Hattiesburg, Dennis L. (Gwen) Pierce of Oloh, Elisa P. (Keith) Collins of Hattiesburg, Letitia R. (Jeff Aker) of Olive Branch, MS and Darian A. Pierce of Hanapepe, Hawaii. Eight grandchildren, Danielle, Jessica, Christopher, Dalen, Noah, Keagan, Rylan, and Arabella. Her great-grandchildren Beckham, Melody, John Lyndell, Colt, Oliver and Sawyer. Her sister Jimmie Matheny and brother Mike Thrash.
