Services celebrating the life of Mrs. Peggy Cowart Williamson, of Hattiesburg, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday September 27, 2023, at Gateway Christian Church (formerly McLain United Methodist Church) with Bro. Dennis Cochran officiating.  Burial will follow in the Progress Family Cemetery.

Mrs. Williamson was born in McLain, MS on June 17, 1943, and from a young age, knew she wanted to be a teacher.  She worked for the Department of Human Services prior to receiving her masters degree in Elementary Education and Elementary Administration. She also held a AAA in Guidance and Counseling and Vocational Counseling.   She had a tremendous career in education that spanned 35 years beginning in Greene County, with stints following in George County, Stone County, and Perry County, before her final stop back in her beloved McLain where she ultimately retired as principal of McLain Attendance Center.  She was an accomplished author, having written numerous children's books, an avid painter, and enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, and simply loving on her family.  She was not only a mentor to her own family, but touched the lives of so many students throughout her wonderful life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dickey Williamson in 2021; her parents, H.T. and Rivana Cowart, and a brother John Cowart.

She leaves behind her children, Charlie (Melissa) Williamson of Hattiesburg and Cindy (Keith) Riley of Union City, TN; her grandchildren, Jeremy Riley, Justin Riley, Noah Williamson, and Eden Williamson; her great grandchildren, Seeley, Dax, Alex, Sutton, Brighton, and Lyla; her sisters, Pat Clark of Broomfield, CO and Anne Richardson of Hull, TX; her brother, Josh Cowart of Hattiesburg, and an untold number of friends.

Visitation for Mrs. Williamson will be held from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Jones and Son Funeral Home in Beaumont.
