Graveside services for Mr. Murland Smith, age 76, of Neely, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Mutual Rights Cemetery in Neely.  Mr. Smith passed from this life on April 6, 2026 at his residence.  Bro. David Grayson will officiate the service.  Serving as pallbearers will be Danny Bounds, Chancey Bounds, Andrew Bounds, Jeremy Cooley, Jason Cooley, and Tate McLain.

Mr. Smith passed away leaving behind a legacy of hard work, faith, and devotion to family. He worked as a homebuilder for over 50 years, contributing his craftsmanship to communities throughout South Mississippi.  A lifelong member of Mutual Rights Congregational Methodist Church, he faithfully served in many roles over the years, demonstrating his deep commitment to his church and community. He also proudly served in the Mississippi National Guard for six years and was honored as the first "Guardsman of the Year" for his unit.  Mr. Smith found great joy in gardening and fixing things, always willing to lend a helping hand. He loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed sharing stories of hunting and fishing. Above all, he cherished time with his family, particularly following his grandchildren and being actively involved in their lives and activities. Mr. Smith will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his faith, and the deep love he had for his family and community.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Faye Smith, and parents, Grady and Reba Lois Smith.

He is survived by his loving wife, Alpha Smith of Neely; children, Amy Byrd and Denton (Emily) Smith, both of Neely; stepson, Greg Scoggins of State Line; brother, Elwyn Smith of Neely; grandchildren, Kayleigh Byrd (Hayden West), Keaton Byrd, Reanna Scoggins, Harley Scoggins (Gunner Smith), Ashley (Taylor) Corley, Hanna (Brodie) Myrick, Trevor Parker, Abigail Callegan, and Ashlynn Callegan; and great-grandchild, Taylen Corley.
