Dawn Lacour Thrash, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on October 25, 2026. She was born on August 14, 1954, to the late Lurry David Lacour and Estelle Dornier Lacour and was the youngest of nine children. Dawn married Ike W. Thrash, and in 52 years of marriage they built a life centered on family, faith, and a deep love for one another. As she raised four children, Dawn devoted herself wholeheartedly to her role as a wife, mother, and eventually grandmother. Her greatest joy was her family. She took immense pride in the lives her children built and the families they continue to raise.
Dawn answered everything the world asked of her. She was steadfast in the throes of struggle, humble in the glow of success, and selfless in an age that celebrates the self. And above all this, in a word, she was motherly; possessing that rare instinct to love without condition. Her world was not hurried, each day was a gift from God, meant to be received with gratitude. She loved cooking, playing the piano, horses, holidays, teaching music at Benedict Day School, all things French (even the croissanwich), and virtually any excuse to gather her family for a meal. In those gatherings, Dawn relished the opportunity to be motherly again.
At the foundation of Dawn's life was her abiding faith, which she both practiced and served at St. Fabian Catholic Church. It sustained her, grounded her and gave her peace. She did not fear death. It was a homecoming, a return to the loving arms of her Creator. She looked forward to a joyful reunion with those who went before her, and the promise of one day greeting those she loved and left behind.
She leaves a family forever shaped by her devotion and the quiet grace with which she lived her life. In addition to her parents, Dawn was preceded in death by her sisters, Dayle Lacour Bradford and Alys Joy Hurley; and her brothers, L. David Lacour Jr., Don Lacour, and Daniel Lacour.
She is survived by her loving husband, Ike W. Thrash; her four children and spouses, Jennifer Harvey (David), Kelly Oliver (David), Walker Thrash (Katie), and Joseph Thrash (Hayley); and her thirteen beloved grandchildren, Adelle Harvey, Carson Oliver, Emmy Harvey, Cecile Oliver, Annabelle Thrash, Marie Thrash, Sutton Harvey, Elizabeth Thrash, Turner Thrash, Alys Thrash, Evelyn Thrash, Mary Thrash, and Locke Thrash. She is also survived by her siblings, Douglas Lacour, Dick Lacour, and Debra McLaughlin, along with many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Fabian Catholic Church in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Visitation will be held at St. Fabian Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., prior to the Mass.
May she rest in the eternal peace of Christ, and may perpetual light shine upon her.
