Graveside services for Mr. Melvin "Mel" Stafford, age 89, of Hattiesburg will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Roseland Park Cemetery in Hattiesburg.  Mr. Stafford passed from this life on April 20, 2024.  Dr. Nathan Barber will officiate the service.  Serving as pallbearers will be David Page Myrick, Dale Preston Myrick, James Kevin Johnson, Brian Eugene Johnson, Johnny Meredith, William Bolton, and Robert Saucier.

Mel spent his younger days in Carson, Mississippi before moving to Willits, California, where he worked in the lumber business.  After moving to the Hattiesburg area, he began working as a custom home builder and later expanded into rental properties.  He was a member of the Mississippi Home Builders Association.  Mel was always active in his local church Calvary Baptist Church and also Community Baptist Church, where he served as choir director and loved to sing and play his guitar.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Marie Stafford; son, William Wayne Stafford; brother, Fred Stafford; and sisters, Deloreath Poley, Christine Kirkley, and Graple Jones.

Mel is survived by his brother, David Loren Stafford of Hattiesburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In lieu of flowers please donate to Calvary Baptist Church of Oak Grove, the American Cancer Society, or the Alzheimers Association.
