Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, in the Fellowship Baptist Church in Ellisville, 1069 Ovett-Moselle Road, Ellisville, MS 39437 for Mr. Melton Emmett Thompson, age 76, of Ellisville. Mr. Thompson passed away on July 23, 2025, at his residence. Bro. Henry Freeman and Bro. Stanley Downs will officiate with the burial to follow in the Union Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be John Christopher Cunningham, Christopher Oneal Dougherty, Austin Neal Bounds, William Thomas Harris, Chad Tyler Thompson and John Walt Hughs, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Destiny Alexandria Bounds, Ashlon Lynette Clark, Carrie Nicole Stewart, Christina Rena Hughs, Richard Shane Petersen and Braydon Wyatt Petersen.

Emmett was born on September 18, 1948, to Melton Dozier and Vinie Temple Thompson in Laurel, MS. He worked for 45 years as a truck driver for several different companies. He owned and operated his own trucking company, Thompson Trucking. He retired as a volunteer fireman from Moselle Volunteer Fire Department after 13 years. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Union Community of Ellisville, MS. He dearly loved being outside, hunting and fishing and spending time with his family. He served in the United States Marines during the Vietnam War.

He was preceded in death by his great-granddaughter, Chloe Marie; brother, Richard Thompson and parents.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Thompson of Ellisville; sons, Layne (Sandy) Bounds of Ellisville, Chris (Carrie) Thompson of Arp, TX and Joseph (Karen) Thompson of Ellisville; daughter Kelly (Todd) Petersen of Ellisville; grandchildren, John, Destiny, Austin, Christopher, Nicole, Chad, Ashlon, William, Christina, Dakota, Tristian, Austen, Shane and Brayden; great-grandchildren, Madyson, Carter, Amelia, Abigail, Levi, Brooklyn, Easton, Ellie, Scarlett, Izzy, Grace, Samuel, Braden and Addisyn;  brothers, Brent Thompson, Bruce Thompson, Monroe Thompson and Joe Thompson all of Moselle; sisters, Virginia Smith of Los Angeles, CA, Dorothy Johnson of Moselle, Vicky Hill of Richmond, VA and Betty Kay Thompson of Stem, NC.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2025, at Fellowship Baptist Church in Union.
