Graveside services for MAJ. Gene A. Taylor, USMC, Ret., age 89, of Sumrall will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, February 13, 2026 at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg.  Maj. Taylor passed from this life on February 8, 2026 in Hattiesburg.  Father Tommy Conway will offficiate the service.

Maj. Taylor was a faithful member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Jacksonville, Florida, and lived a life marked by service, devotion, and strength.  He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps for 32 years before retiring with honor. During his distinguished military career, he completed two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, exemplifying courage, dedication, and commitment to his fellow service members and to his nation.  Maj. Taylor's legacy of faith, service, and love for his family will be cherished and remembered always

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hosey and Essie Taylor, as well as several brothers and sisters.

He is survived by his loving wife, Marietta Taylor of Sumrall; daughters, Sherri (John) Adams of Sumrall and Kathy Taylor (Sara) Habis of Jacksonville, FL; and sister, Senie Buxton of Texas.
