Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, 10/17/2023, in the Jones and Son Chapel of Moselle for Mr. Lavon Yates, age 61, of Moselle who went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 12, 2023 at his residence. Bro. Hiram Eaves and Bro. Cliff Lazenby will officiate with burial to follow in the Moselle Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Temple, Wiley Bryant, Patrick Berger, Brian Backstrom, Kenny Misenhimer, Dempsey Brewer and Randy Backstrom with Darrell Blackwell as the alternate.

Mr. Yates was born on February 24, 1962 to William J. and Martha Ann Yates. Lavon worked at Masonite for several years before going to work with the United States Postal Service. He then started his own air conditioning and refrigeration business where he spent the last 17 years. He served as Music Director at Moselle United Methodist Church for many years and was currently attending Hattiesburg Community Church. He loved to fish and play with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a host of aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Beth Yates, of Moselle; daughters, Stacy (Lee) Backstrom and Shelley (Jared) Smith both of Moselle; grandchildren, Carson and Parker Backstrom; brother, Lavelle (Elizabeth) Yates of Moselle; special sibling, Sabrina J. Smith of Moselle; special aunt, Paulette (Toxie) Crosby and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Visitation will be 5:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2023, at Jones and Son Funeral Home in Moselle.
