Services for Mr. J. V. Hartfield of Purvis will be held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Jones and Son Chapel of Hattiesburg.  Visitation will immediately precede the service from 1:00 pm to 3:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in the Hartfield-Pine Ridge Cemetery.   Mr. Hartfield died at home on June 9, 2023, at age 89.

Mr. Hartfield was born on November 2, 1933, in Lamar County, Mississippi, to Joe B. and Mattie Hartfield.  After a tour in the U. S. Navy, he began his career as a home builder.  He was meticulous and took great pride in his craftmanship.  He not only built fine, strong houses, but he also built lifelong friendships with the people who would make those houses their homes.  Even more importantly, he built a strong family, a solid reputation, and a legacy of honesty, kindness, and generosity.  He was always able to make people smile with a story--often about the good old days he cherished. He enjoyed gardening and was content with the simple things of life.  Family was his priority.  He was a faithful husband, father, Paw-Paw, brother, uncle, and friend.  His humility endeared him to many.  His quiet faith in the Lord was evident when faced with illness. He may have set more concrete foundations over the years than anyone could count, but his real foundation was his faith in Christ.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Jo Ann Hartfield of Purvis; children, Jim Hartfield, Alan (Elaine) Hartfield, and Blake (Kathy) Hartfield, all of Purvis, and Andrea (John) Breland of Clinton; grandchildren, Lance Hartfield, Heather Hartfield, Adrian Hartfield, Brandon Hartfield, Barrett Breland, Anna Breland, Grant Breland, Nathan Hartfield, Kristina Hartfield and Will Hartfield; six great-grandchildren; sisters, Dean Keith, Yuba Boutwell, Montressa Steele; and brother, Terry Hartfield.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Parker Breland; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Hartfield; and brothers, Wayne and Grady Hartfield; and his parents.
