Funeral services will be held at Jones and Son Funeral Home, 18 Moselle-Seminary Road, Moselle, Mississippi on Saturday, May 13 with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. and services at 11:00 a.m. for Mrs. Jewel Dean Pittman Porter of Gulfport, MS. Interment will be held at Ellisville Cemetery. Bro. James Carruthers will officiate with burial following the service. Pallbearers will be Aaron Shows, Jeremy Shows, Josh Shows, Brad Reynolds, James Pittman and Harrison Pittman.

Jewel Dean Pittman Porter, 87, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and friends on May 9, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. A native of Jones County, Jewel worked and raised her family in Hattiesburg, retired after 26 years at the Hattiesburg American newspaper, and moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Harrison and Inez Everett Pittman; her husband, Tom Porter; her son, Ronald Alan Shows; her sister, Donis Faye Pittman; her brothers, Albert Pittman, Billy Wayne Pittman, Alfred "Buddy" Pittman, Jimmy Dale Pittman, and Gary Pittman. She is survived by her children, Roger Jerome Shows and Paula Renee Mims (Steve); daughter-in-law, Dawn Gipson Broussard Shows; stepdaughters Lynn Porter Williams (Mac) and Dana Porter Aune (Morgan); and stepson Robert Porter (Michelle).

In addition, she is survived by her sisters, Tina Pittman DeWolf, Joyce Pittman Fontan (Rick), and Jean Pittman Hays; grandchildren, Aaron Roger Shows, Elizabeth Grace Mims, Christine Lindie Shows, Stephen Elliott Mims, Crystal Patton (Shane), Joshua Alan Shows, and Jeremy William Shows (Lanni); great-grandchildren, Madelyn Grace Gregg, Owen Roger Shows, Allyson Leighann Shows and Emilia Patton; many nieces and nephews and long-time companion, Charles Stubbs.

A member of Success Baptist Church in Saucier, Jewel was known for her deep love and devotion to her family and friends. Jewel adored her children, stepchildren, grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren. She never missed an opportunity to let them know how much they were loved and always signed cards, "Know that you are loved."

Jewel knew that time was the most valuable commodity she could give and receive. She was easy-going, loved every minute of life, and was probably the kindest person you'd ever meet

A lover of nature, Jewel spent most of her time enjoying hummingbirds, flowers, sunshine, and shooting stars. She looked forward to two events every year -- her family reunion and Christmas. She made every Christmas special with an open invitation to all family and friends to celebrate with her homemade chicken and dumplings and the best pecan pie ever! The Christmas meal was always followed by a bonfire where friends and family gathered each year. She will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be sent in her memory to the Alzheimer's Association.
