James Thomas Williams, age 89, of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2026, at Merit Health Wesley in Hattiesburg.

He was born on July 16, 1936, in Lamar County, Mississippi, to Marvin and Mignonne Williams. James devoted more than 40 years of his life to his profession as a land surveyor and was the proud owner of James T. Williams, PLS. Through his work, he earned the respect of colleagues and clients alike for his skill, integrity, and dedication.

James was a proud United States Army veteran and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Bellevue. He was also a life member of the Hattiesburg Elks Lodge #599, where he served in numerous leadership roles at the local, state, and district levels. He was especially proud to have been instrumental in founding the Elks Camp, a legacy that continues to benefit many.

Outside of his work and community service, James had a deep love for travel and adventure. Alongside the love of his life, his wife Dianne, he enjoyed exploring the country and together they visited 49 states, creating a lifetime of cherished memories.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Mignonne Williams; his brother, Jack Williams; and his sister, Betty Rawls.

James is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dianne Williams; his children, Betty L. (Kevin) Arnold of South Pittsburg, Tennessee, and Tim Williams of Hattiesburg; his grandchildren, Kyle Arnold, Lynn (Luke) Sheppard, Shelby (T.J.) Hennis, Sarah (J.T.) Standridge, and Jamie Arnold; and his great-grandchildren, Ruth Arnold, Ruby Arnold, and John Sheppard. He is also survived by his sister, Beanie (Larry) French, along with a host of other relatives and countless friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, March 16, 2026 at the First Baptist Church of Bellevue. Interment will follow in the Bellevue Cemetery. Visitation for Mr. Williams will be held from 12:00 until 1:00 p.m. Monday, also at the church.
