Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, in the Soule's Chapel Cemetery of Moselle for Mr. James Bruce Thompson, age 81, of Moselle. Mr. Thompson passed away on July 21, 2026.

James was born on February 26, 1945, in Laurel, Mississippi, to Melton Dozier and Vennie (Vinie) C. Thompson. He grew up in Moselle and spent his working life as a logger and short-haul truck driver.

Following the unexpected death of his father, James assumed the role of head of the household and helped guide and support his younger siblings as they grew in adulthood.

James enjoyed helping people in his community and was an avid CB radio operator known by the handle "Woodchopper". He often spent his free time driving along Interstate 59, where he would stop to assist motorists, whose vehicles had become disabled.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Melton Emmett Thompson and Michael Richard Thompson.

James is survived by his siblings, William B. Thompson of Moselle, Robert M. Thompson of Moselle, Dorothy J. Johnson of Moselle, Virginia T. Smith of Lawndale, California, Vicky T. Hill of Richmond, Virginia, Joseph R. Thompson of Moselle, and Betty K. Thompson, Stem, North Carolina.

He will be remembered for his willingness to help others, his devotion to his family, and the responsibility he accepted at a young age for caring for those he loved.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2026, at Jones and Son Funeral Home of Moselle.
