Services for Mr. James Vardaman Pope, Jr., age 93, of Alabaster, Alabama will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, January 22, 2024 at Jones and Son Chapel in Richton.  Mr. Pope passed from this life on January 14, 2024 at his residence.  Bro. Josh Dunn will officiate the service and burial will follow in Frisco Cemetery.

Mr. Pope was born on November 18, 1930 in Mobile, Alabama.  On May 11, 1958, he married Mary Ann Newell.  He was a veteran of the United States Navy where he served four years.  Mr. Pope was a graduate of Sand Hill High School, Jones County Junior College, and Mississippi Southern.  He also had a master's degree in public health from Tulane University.  He worked for the Mobile County Health Department for 43 years.

Mr. Pope was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Pope; daughter, Bridget Pope Daniel; father, James V. Pope, Sr.; mother, Ernie Mae Walley; stepfather, Baxter Walley; and sisters, Eleana Walley Cochran and Zelline Walley Crandall.

He is survived by his daughter, Natalie Spann; son-in-law, Herbert Spann, Jr.; son-in-law, Jim Daniel; grandchildren, Craig Daniel and April Daniel; and several nieces and nephews.
