Mr. James Albert Walley, son of the late Mary Oree Creel Walley and Albert Obadiah Walley, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on April 16, 2023. He was born in Richton, Mississippi, on July 24, 1934, where he attended public schools. He began his military career in the United States Marine Corps on August 13, 1951, and served his country with distinction for twenty years. He was a decorated veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat "V" for meritorious service in connection with combat operations.

Mr. Walley entered into holy matrimony with the late Ann Holton Rouse on September 21, 1956, with whom he shared 66 years of marriage. In addition to his parents and devoted wife, he was preceded in death by his son, James Obadiah Walley; brother, Thomas Walley; and sister, Elizabeth Walley Shoemake. He is survived by his children, Angelene Walley Picton (along with dear friend Mark Teel) of Grifton, NC and Wanda Walley Nugent (John) of Greer, SC; six grandchildren, Adam Obadiah Nugent (Emily) of Inman, SC, Ann Nugent Dodd (Michael) of Taylors, SC, Mitchell Douglas Picton of Ayden, NC, Elna Elaine "Ellie" Picton of Raleigh, NC, John Douglas Picton of Grifton, NC, and Tucker Blake Nugent of Greer, SC; three great grandchildren: Sara Lynn Dodd, Ally Grace Dodd, and John Lane Dodd all of Taylors, SC.

Visitation will be held at Jones and Son Funeral Home of Richton, MS, on Saturday, April 22, 2023 from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.  Services will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Jones and Son Chapel and burial with military honors will follow in Edwards Cemetery at Good Hope in Richton, MS. Arrangements are by Farmer Funeral Service of Ayden, NC, and Jones and Son Funeral Home of Richton, MS.

The family wishes to extend sincere thanks to the many kind, compassionate caregivers, including the skilled providers of Gentiva Hospice of Kinston, NC, who provided expert, gracious care for our dear father and grandfather.
