5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 21, 2022 at First Baptist Church of Beaumont for Mr. Glennwood Mathis, age 88, of Beaumont.  Mr. Mathis passed from this life on November 15, 2022 at Forrest General Hospital.  Bro. Jerry East will officiate the service with burial to follow in Beaumont Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Jamie Thompson, Glennie Thompson, Jeremie Wells, Josie Gibbons, Codie Gibbons, Matt Mathis, and Bradley Mathis.

Mr. Mathis worked in the education field for 66 years, serving as a teacher, principal, and then as Superintendent of Perry County Schools.  After his retirement, he went to be headmaster of Bessemer Academy in Bessemer, AL and at The Warrior Academy in Eutaw, AL.  Following retirement from there, he returned to Perry County to serve as the Director of Special Education.  Later, he would continue his service to students by serving on the Perry County School Board until his death.

Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his beloved son, Glennwood "Woody" Mathis II; parents, Estes and Mary Mathis; brother, Byron Mathis; sister, Mary Sue Powell; and grandparents, Dr. E.J. and Mary Mathis and George and Sarah Hillman Breland.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Frances Smith Mathis of Beaumont; children, Debbie and Greg Thomas of Beaumont, Cathy and Mitch Wells of Beaumont, Jennie and Troy Gibbons of Pelham, AL, and Frankie and LeeAnn Mathis of Clayton, NC; brother, Billy Ray Mathis of New Orleans, LA; sister, Sara Mathis Barber of Tupelo, MS; and 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 21, 2022, at First Baptist Church of Beaumont from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
