Services for Mr. Freddie J. Hammonds, age 72, of Richton, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church with Bro. Thomas Holloway officiating.  Burial will follow in the Union Cemetery.

Freddie worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding for 30 years, retiring as an outside machinist.  He faithfully served his country for 21 years in the Army National Guard and was a member of Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.  Freddie was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking, and tinkering with cars.  One of his favorite pastimes was watching football and cheering on his Florida State Seminoles.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Hanah Hammonds; his parents, W.C. and Lottie Hammonds; and his father and mother-in-law, Verbie and Alene Walley.

He is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 49 years, Doris Hammonds; his sons, Joe Hammonds of Richton, Jay (Malorie) Hammonds of Houston, TX, and Gene (Jessica) Hammonds of Hattiesburg; 17 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; his brothers, Larry (Cathi) Hammonds of Vancleave and Ricky (Liz) Hammonds of Laurel; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Visitation for Mr. Hammonds will be held from 6:00 until 10:00 p.m. Tuesday at Fellowship Freewill Baptist Church.
