Miss Eleanor Bernice McIntosh of Vernal, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on December 17,, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital.  She was 89 years old.

A lifelong resident of Vernal, Bernice was educated in the Greene County Schools and graduated from William Carey College with a degree in education.  She taught for a few years at Lucedale High School before transferring to the Mobile County School District where she completed her 30 years of teaching 3rd and 4th grade in the Citronelle Schools.  After retirement, she worked as a legal secretary for several years.

Bernice loved travelling and was always ready to see and do new things.  She was happiest working in and around her home in Vernal where she lived her entire life.

She was preceded in death by her father, Alex McIntosh; and her mother and stepfather, Malzia Savage and Frankie Savage.

She is survived by her sisters, Nancy McIntosh of Vernal, Frances Forsyth of Vernal, and Carolyn Johnson of Hattiesburg; and by her brother and sister-in-law, George and Nell McIntosh of Lucedale.   She also leaves behind a large and grateful group of nieces and nephews who will treasure the innumerable good times and life lessons that they were blessed to have with her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Vernal Presbyterian Church on Thursday, December 21, 2023 where Miss McIntosh was a lifelong member, with burial to take place in the McIntosh Cemetery at her home.   Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 20, 2023 from 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. also at the church.   Memorial contributions may be made to the Vernal Presbyterian Church P.O. Box 1622, Lucedale, MS 39452 in her memory, or to the charity of your choice.
