5:30 - 9:00 p.m.

Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Piave Baptist Church for Mr. Douglas Walley, age 79, of Piave, MS.  Bro. Terry Phillips and Bro. Josh Freeman will officiate the service and burial will follow in Henderson Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Blaine Walley, Tristin Walley, Bryce Walley, Anthony Passman, Devin Brewer, and Daulton McDonald.  Honorary pallbearer will be Jerry Wayne Harrison.

Douglas Walley was born March 8, 1943 in State Line, MS and passed into the loving arms of Jesus on January 7, 2023.

He was preceded in death by his father, Herman Lee Walley; mother, Alberta Jones Walley; brother, Eugene Wallley; and sister, Lemoine Williford.

He is survived by the love of his life and wife of 56 years, Betty Jean Henderson Walley of Piave.  He was a loving and involved father to Jason (Tracey) Walley of Piave, and Kevin (Kim) Walley of Piave.  He was adoringly known as Pawpaw to his grandchildren, Tori (Anthony) Passman of Petal, Alexis (Devin) Brewer of Petal, Blaine (Madison) Walley of Piave, Bailey (Daulton) McDonald of Leakesville, Tristin Walley of Piave, and Bryce Walley of Piave; great grandchildren, Briggs Passman, Avery Brewer, Reagan Passman, Ridge Brewer, Ada Bet Walley, Kash McDonald, and Rowdey Walley. He is also survive by his beloved nieces and nephews.

Douglas graduated from Sand Hill School in 1961 and shortly thereafter joined the U.S. Air Force.  In 1967 he married his sweetheart, Betty Jean Henderson.  Throughout the years, Douglas worked as a carpenter, at Ingalls Shipbuilding, and served as Greene County Beat 3 Supervisor for 9 years.  Eventually, Douglas was the manager at Beat 3 Water Association, where he remained until retirement.  Douglas was a member of Piave Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and taught the adult Sunday school class.  He was unwavering in his commitment to his God, his family, his community, and his work.

Douglas was an avid fisherman and spent countless days making memories with his family on the lake and/or river.  He spent a lot of his free time at his fishing camp along the Leaf River with his family.  He enjoyed hunting and shared that love with his children and grandchildren.  He took great pride in his grandchildren and spent countless hours attending various sporting events to cheer them on.  He delighted in watching the Mississippi State Bulldogs play football and baseball.  He was a hard worker and did not enjoy being idle, but he deeply loved the outdoors and could often be found sitting outside enjoying God's beautiful creation almost every (warm) evening.  He had many hobbies and passions, but nothing made him happier than being surrounded by his his family, just enjoying their presence.

He was deeply proud of all that he had accomplished in his lifetime.  He will be profoundly missed by his family and friends, but we rejoice in the confidence that he is renewed in Heaven and is reunited with loved ones and his Lord and Savior.
