Mike Irwin, 66, of Hattiesburg passed from this life on February 24, 2026, at Asbury Hospice House, in the company of his wife and daughters. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 28, 2026, at Jones & Son Funeral Chapel in Hattiesburg.  Bro. Ed Steele will officiate the service and burial will follow in Midway First Baptist Church Cemetery.  Serving as pallbearers will be Giuliano Lupinetti, Jacob Islas, Colby Sellers, Chase Lott, Cameron Lott, and Fletcher Currie.

Born in Ogden, Utah on September 21, 1959, to Francis "Jack" and Wilma Irwin, Mike spent his early life as a military brat. Along with his parents and siblings, Mike lived on or near military bases in places like Minot, North Dakota, and Biloxi, Mississippi. His family ultimately settled in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, where he graduated from Ocean Springs High School after playing on the football and baseball teams. He attended the University of Southern Mississippi, participating in both the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, and the USAF ROTC Program. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BS in Criminal Justice in 1981. It was during his time in college that he met his beloved wife Patricia Irwin, nee Lott. After obtaining his bachelor's degree at USM, Mike was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force, Security Forces Division. Thus began an almost 30-year career as an Air Force Officer. During this time, Mike obtained two master's degrees, multiple promotions and awards, and had 18 different duty postings, finally retiring from the Air Force in 2010 as a full bird Colonel. Mike then spent the next 13 years as a civilian with multiple military installations throughout the southeast. In 2023, Mike fully retired from working life to spend more time with his grandchildren.

Mike had many passions and was a man of many talents. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and watching USM sports, as long as his family and friends were there to enjoy them with him. Later in life, he spent summers gardening with his father-in-law, Pascal. His greatest joy in life was his family – his wife, Patricia, two daughters, Rachel and Ashley, and his 5 grandchildren. Mike was kind, generous, and funny, and he will be missed by all who had the pleasure of calling him friend.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Wilma Irwin; twin sister, Michelle Irwin; sister, Karen Campbell; parents-in-law, Pascal and Vera Lott; and brothers-in-law, Glenn Lott and Danny Huntley.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia Lott Irwin of Hattiesburg; daughters, Rachel (Jacob) Islas of Los Alamos, NM and Ashley (Colby) Sellers of Purvis; grandchildren, Kinley, Caislea, Waylon, Avery, and Conley; siblings, Steven Irwin of Mandeville, LA, Patrick (Stephanie) Irwin of Ocean Springs, Patricia Holding of Utah, and Sharen Huntley of Leakesville; sisters-in-law, Jude Lupinetti of Long Beach and Gaye Nell Currie of Brandon; and a host of neices and nephews.
