A memorial service celebrating the life of Mr. Charlie Mayes, age 82, of Richton, will be held at 9:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2024 at Asbury Church in Petal.  Mr. Mayes passed from this life on August 3, 2024 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.  Bro. Brian Hinnant will officiate the service.

Mr. Charles Lavon Mayes was born on May 7, 1942.  He retired as a hairdresser/cosmetologist.  He was a proud member of the Master Gardener's Association.  Charles taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church of Richton.  He also attended Asbury Church of Petal, Mississippi where he served on the prayer committee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa J. Mayes; son, Michael Gregory Mayes; parents, Leroy and Susie Jewel Deen Mayes; sister, Mary Nell Mayes Peterson; and brother-in-law, Velton Peterson.

He is survived by his daughters, Melanie (Ronnie) Allen of Chesapeake, VA, Melisa (Brian) Murphy of Chattanooga, TN, Christie (Shaun) Grigsby of Woodbridge, VA, and Kelley Lynn Sanderson of Richton, MS; daughter-in-law, Sandra Ware Mayes of Hattiesburg, MS; grandchildren, Abigale, Kerstin, Rian, Kallie, Joseph William, Riley, Charleigh, and Erin; great grandchildren, Kohlston and and Koenn; and siblings, Susie (Gerald) Pepper, Paul (Anita) Mayes, and William Thomas (Donna) Mayes.
