INTERMENT:  Highland Cemetery

Graveside services for Mr. Brian Gauntlett, age 73, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2025 at Highland Cemetery in Hattiesburg.  Mr. Gauntlett passed from this life on March 8, 2025 at his residence.  Bro. Randy Sims will officiate the service.  Serving as pallbearers will be Carl Sanderson, John Sanderson, Reggie Smith, Joel Smith, Jeffery Sanderson, and Warren Smith.

Brian Douglas Gauntlett, of Youngstown, Florida, was born and raised in the Ballard community of Seattle, Washington. He was the son of the late Delores and Bill Gauntlett.

Brian had a very successful career as a marine engineer in the Pacific Northwest fishing industry.  One of his proudest achievements was the lead engineer in charge of the first ever conversion of former cruise ship into a seven story floating fish processing plant known as the Ocean Phoenix. Brian left the fishing trade and, together with his wife, Carolyn Alston Gauntlett, managed Beach Haven Resort on Orcas Island. Later, to be near family, they moved to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, where they purchased and expanded Shady Cove RV Park. Brian had a knack for electrical work, air conditioning, and carpentry—his meticulous workshop was a testament to his skill.  He loved to caulk and especially loved his duct tape, he could always be counted on to have a roll (or a dozen) nearby.

An outdoorsman at heart, Brian enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and camping. He loved Alaska and spent many years there enjoying the great outdoors and working in and around the fishing industry.  He was always ready with a prank or a laugh and was known for his playful spirit.

Brian and Carolyn (Carrie) were married for 40 years.  He was deeply devoted to Carrie.  Brian stood by her through various illnesses and loved her children and grandchildren as his own.

Later in life, Brian accepted the saving grace of Jesus Christ and was baptized alongside his grandson, Joel. He loved learning about biblical prophecy and enjoyed his favorite ministry programs, which enriched his faith and provided comfort. Known for his ingenuity and generosity, Brian was always willing to lend a hand.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his stepchildren: John Sanderson (Debbie) of Panama City, Florida; Carl Sanderson (Sonya) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; Yvonne Smith (Reggie) of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; and Francine Egner of Youngstown, Florida.

His grandchildren include Jennifer Raymond, John Sanderson, Nikki Sebreros, Amber Tubbs, Ray McNealy, Jeffrey Sanderson, Brooke Adcock, Laura Michini, Graham Sanderson, Victoria Sanderson, Marisa Sanderson, Danielle Smith, Warren Smith, Joel Smith, and Lindsey Smith, as well as his great-grandchildren.

Brian will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him. His legacy of hard work, humor, faith, and love for family will live on in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
