It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mrs. Brenda Jean Atwood Walters, age 73, of Moselle, who was born on February 21, 1950, and went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 12, 2023. Her services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, 2023, in the Jones and Son Chapel of Moselle. Bro. Eddie Edwards will officiate with burial to follow in the Moselle Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Bo Walters, Mason McNear, Christian Baylis, McCain Walters, Isaac Walters, Jay Riels and as alternates, Chris Parker, Jeff Morgan and Ben Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton and Vernell Atwood; brother, Mack Ray Atwood; and sisters, Wanda Legg and Shirley Evans.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Walters of Moselle; sons, Thomas (Daphne) Walters of Ellisville, Rick (Danielle) Walters of Moselle and Charles (Lindsay) Luke of Calhoun; brothers, Clifton Atwood, Jr. and Willie Atwood, both of Seminary; sisters, Louise Thrash of Seminary and Sandra May of Denham Springs, LA; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Walters was a dedicated wife, mama, mamaw and homemaker. She loved her husband, boys and babies with a deepness and fierceness that would only compare to that of a mama bear. She was a helper in the truest sense of the word to her husband and cared for him throughout their marriage. She was quick with a hedge limb and a hug with her boys and her grandchildren could do no wrong. Mrs. Brenda, as she was known by the friends of her boys, played a role in helping raise many of her boys buddies. She loved them and treated them like her own. Bones and Bren, as she was known to her siblings, loved to play cards, drink coffee, and laugh with her brothers and sisters.

She was somewhere between a short order cook and a gourmet chef. If you were hungry when you left her house, that was your fault. She was a homemaker and a good one. Her family never wore dirty clothes, and she woke them up more than once by running the vacuum cleaner at midnight because it was important to her that her home was always presentable. She did not allow anyone else to raise her boys, not even her husband at times, and she was quick to remind you of that. Somehow becoming a mamaw changed her. All of sudden she didn't seem to have any rules anymore but, she created an environment of safety and unconditional love for those that came to her house whether you were family or a friend.

She will be greatly missed and leaves a legacy of love and devotion to her family and friends that won't be easily matched.

Visitation will be Monday, May 15, 2023, 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Jones and Son Funeral Home in Moselle.
