Bertha Mae Coleman, 96, of Saucier, Mississippi, peacefully made her journey to the Father on March 6, 2026.

Born on May 20, 1929, to Bertha (Beech) and Henry Dobson in Ellisville, under challenging circumstances, losing both her mother and twin sister. She was lovingly adopted by her uncle and his wife, Willie and Nancy (Beech) Parks. Where she was raised to work hard and love harder!

As a girl, Bertha was married and gave birth to two sons, "Dub" and Wayne, whom she cherished deeply. Standing up for herself, refusing to accept mistreatment, resulted in the ultimate punishment and her boys were stripped away. This act of defiance was part of countless women making small rebellions that paved the way for the freedoms women have today. She never stopped loving or praying for her boys, despite being unable to fully repair the relationship or counter the lies told to them.

Bertha went on to find true love with Lonnie "Junior" Coleman, and they built a life in New Orleans and Houston, Texas. Together, they loved and raised a son, Lonnie Willie Coleman.

Bertha flourished in this new life as a mother and "Maw-Maw" until the unexpected death of her husband in 1989, prompting her return to the Moselle & Rainey area to be closer to her "people", as she would say.

She spent her days with her siblings and their families making up for the 30 years spent apart.

Determined to keep love in her life, she later married Ralph Giles, of Laurel, who passed in 2002. In 2010, Bertha moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast to live with her son, Lonnie and wife. Since 2024, she was cared for by her granddaughter, "Angie," in Saucier, MS, where she enjoyed the company of her great-grandchildren, and bringing to them more joy, love, and learning.

A devoted follower of faith, Bertha spent her days studying The Father's Word.

She led a life, marked by both tragedy and resilience, that showcased her beauty, tenacity, and strength. She was known for her fierce love and unyielding fight like that of a "candy-coated rattlesnake."

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Bertha (Beech) Dobson, Willie and Nancy (Beech) Parks; husband, Lonnie "Junior" Coleman; son, Lonnie Willie Coleman; brothers, Joseph Parks (Catherine "Bernell"), Elvin Parks, Homer Parks; sisters, Lela Garner (Willard), Sadie Rainey (A.B.), Eva Tisdale, Euna Bee Bryant (John).

She is survived by her granddaughter: Angelita "Angie" Coleman; great-grandchildren, Parker Johnson and Karlita "Karli" Johnson, of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law: Linda Parks (wife of Homer); countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The family also extends heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of St. Joseph Hospice for their compassionate care and support and to her daily caregivers, Anyssa Porter and Autumn Lucas, for their dedicated support and love during her final days.

Visitation will be Monday, April 13, 2026, 12:00 p.m. – 1:45 p.m. at Jones & Son Funeral Home, Moselle, Mississippi.

Graveside service will follow visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the Fairfield Baptist Church Cemetery.
