Mrs. Barbara Ann Lopez Acosta, age 88, of Purvis, MS passed from this life on August 10, 2023.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Acosta; sons, Kim Acosta and Russ Acosta; brother, Candido Lopez and sister, Mary Anna Breaux..

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Austin (Mark), and Kelli Adams; sister, Audrey Martinez and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. She is the proud grandmother of Erica Thieler, Angelle Wyatt (Sean), Russ Acosta, Jr. (Michelle), Christopher Acosta (Brenda), Mark Austin, Jr., Joseph Austin, Samuel Austin, Jonathan Adams, Jacob Austin (Kimberly), Jennifer Adams, Jillian Adams, Marianna Adams and Jesse Adams. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, Shelby Ehrhard (Nick) and Treston Thieler, Gabrielle, Giana and Gisele Acosta, Addison, Brennen and Carsyn Wyatt, Destiney Horton (Aubrey) and Iceis & Ilise Acosta and Krystana and Khloe Nudo and three great, great grandchildren, Piper & Brooks Ehrhard and Chloe Davison.

She was born on August 24, 1934, as the second child and first daughter of the late Candido and Lilly Sylvera Lopez. She was born and raised in Delacroix Island in lower St. Bernard Parish, Louisiana and was a long-time resident of Arabi and Chalmette. Following Katrina, she and her husband, Rodney, moved to Purvis, MS to be near her children.

As a little girl, Barbara and her siblings were the apple of their dad's eye. They lived a simple life in their home on the bayou in St. Bernard Parish and like most Isleños down the road, their first language was Spanish. She was very loved by her siblings, parents, grandparents and great aunts and uncles and cousins who lived nearby. While in high school she met the love of her life, Rodney Harry Acosta "Weyo." He joined the military. While he was home on leave one weekend, they were married in a beautiful wedding that their families planned for them. She was nineteen when they married. They immediately moved to Philadelphia, PA where Rodney was stationed and had their first child, a son, Kim. The children soon came one by one and before long they had a house full of four children, two boys and two girls. While the children were growing up, one of the delights of their family was camping. They travelled the country and camped weekend after weekend throughout each summer - graduating from sleeping in a tent to a pop-up camper, then a hard trailer and eventually a motor home. With their beloved dear friends and cousins, they enjoyed traveling, visiting the Smokey Mountains and making memories after memories together.

Barbara had various jobs in their young married life as a working mom. She worked at the St. Bernard Clerk of Court's office for many years and as a legal secretary to her cousin, Manuel Fernández. Eventually she branched out on her own as a notary and realtor and opened her own business, Suburban Title Insurance Agency. Her business thrived and was very successful. She became a pillar in the community providing service to so many who needed her help. She truly felt that the reason God blessed her with so much success was so she could use it to bless and help others, which she did freely.

The JOY of Barbara's life was her family and many friends and her testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. She knew He lived.

A small memorial service for close family will be held at a later date.
