Memorial services for Mrs. Barbara Joan Egli, age 84, of Sumrall, will be held at 1:00 p.m., Sunday, December 21, 2025 at Jones and Son chapel in Hattiesburg.  Bro. Lynn Wallace will officiate the service.

It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Barbara Joan Egli, who passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, at the age of 84.

Joan was born in July of 1941, in Athens, Texas, to Frank and Helen Eggleston. Along with her brothers James and Joe, their family later moved to Louisiana, where she spent most of her childhood. Joan often shared fond memories of growing up in south Louisiana. She graduated from Buras High School alongside her high school sweetheart, Don.  Joan attended Louisiana State University until she and Don were married in 1960.

Joan worked for Continental Emsco near New Orleans until she was blessed with two daughters. In the coming years, Joan, Don, and the young girls moved to the Bellevue community near Hattiesburg, Mississippi, a quiet and beautiful area that became their home. Active in her community, Barbara enjoyed serving as a Sunday School teacher at a local church and volunteering at school

After many years, Joan and Don moved closer to town so their daughters could be closer to school but later built a new home west of Hattiesburg in the countryside. Anyone who knew Joan—or even those who simply visited—will remember her generous hospitality and wonderful meals shared with family, neighbors, and church members. With her Louisiana roots, she was especially known for her delicious shrimp gumbo, always preparing enough for a large crowd.

Joan is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Don Egli; their daughters Lana, husband Steve, and Lorne, husband Majeed; grandsons, Scott (wife Beth), Ryan (wife Whitney), Sami, and Collin; and her great-grandchildren, Luke, Connor, Caden, and Natalie.

Joan was full of life, always helpful, with endless energy to serve others. She was the perfect hostess, loved working outdoors alongside her husband, and cherished time spent with her children and grandchildren, especially during visits and travels together.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. The family appreciates the caring support through Hospice.  Special heartfelt thanks to Aletha, Keith, Kim, and Krystal for your dedication and kindness.

A visitation time with her family will be held from 12:00 - 1:00 p.m. also at the funeral home.
